A Supportive, Safe, Compassionate, Trauma and Maternal Mental Health Therapist Serving Individuals in New York and Florida

Salisa Garrand, LMHC

I work with individuals suffering from the chains of trauma, whether from childhood or adulthood, that keep them from living the life they deserve. I also work with women suffering from postpartum depression, loss of identity, and maternal mental health issues.

As your therapist, I will provide empathy and validation, and I will help you identify your strengths and build resiliency. I am committed to providing a safe space for you to process emotions and feel seen and heard. We will work together to identify your needs and create a treatment plan that works best for you.

When I am not in sessions, I engage in scholarly research and advocacy to advance mental health care. I also use creative outlets—like mental health-focused shirts and cups—to spark conversations and reduce stigma around mental well-being.

Why I Do This

The inspiration behind Strong Roots & Resilient Minds comes from two deeply personal parts of my story.

First, during my own journey through mental health struggles, I discovered a poem that resonated profoundly with me: The Oak Tree by Johnny Ray Ryder Jr. This beautiful piece serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience that lie within us, rooted in our core and keeping us grounded during life’s storms—a concept I strive to cultivate in all of my clients.

Second, resilience itself is one of my favorite qualities, a trait I believe we all possess and can nurture. It’s the ability to grow, adapt, and thrive despite adversity, and it forms the foundation of the work we do together in building a meaningful and fulfilling life.
